GIRIPRIYA

Girish is also said to be Giripirya due to his attachment with mountains. For meditational purpose a seeker’s attraction towards the hills is quite obvious. Proper practicing is possible only in a clean and healthy environment. Therefore even now , mountains are considered the best for meditational practices. Surrounding atmosphere is supposed to be helpful for concentration of mind. It is very difficult to refine our notions in polluted atmosphere of metro cities.
Giri is also meant for engulfment. Shiva is much expert in devouring everyone. Engulfing is vey dear to Shiva. Therefore he is called Giripriya. Whatever comes to him, Shiva engulfs it to analyze its symptoms, hence he assimilates it. Either it may be the awareness of words or thoughts, but it is not productive in separation to Shiva. Shiva is subjected to a word until it is separate to him. As per Aalwal, the explanation of Bhaskar Roy regarding the name ‘Giripriya’ is given here—

प्रेमभूरि ते विभाति वैदिकस्तवात्मवाचि।
सर्वपर्वतेष्वपीति नामतो गिरिप्रियोऽसि॥

Purport: You have an enormous love for the chanting of Vedic incantations, and you are highly affectionate to all the mountains, so you are named as Giripriya.
In the spiritual science, when spinal cord and crown chakra receive the nectarine Soma, then they are filled with peace and bliss. Thus Shiva is dear to them. Therefore he is Giripriya. In this context, a devotee of Shiva is also Giripriya. For being the predominating factor of ether, the Giripriya nature of Lord Shiva is quite natural. Seeking the oneness with Shiva is true sense of worship of Giripriya.
