Kamari is very much fond of frolics. Once Lord Uma-Maheshwar was engaged in conjugal pastimes in seclusion. Lord Shankar was playing with Bhagvati. At that time Gauri amusingly placed her soft hands at the eyes of Gauranga. Resultantly the eyes of Lord Trinetra were covered and thus dense darkness prevailed all over three worlds. All the beings were scared and took it as a time of cosmic annihilation. Just then, the most merciful Lord did a strange play. He produced a third eye in the center of his forehead. Thus Lord Shiva turned into the master of ‘uneven eyes’ from ‘even eyes’. This story is fairly mentioned in Mahabharata—
While asked by Bhagvati, Lord Bharga personally revealed this secret. The vision of Acharya Bhaskar is also captivating—
उडुशशिरविसंहर्ता प्रलयसमयसप्तारचिः।
तमुपरि नयेन बिभ्रद् भव! भवसि ललाटाक्षः॥
Purport: O Bhava! The devastating fire which annihilates sun - moon and stars, you hold that fire above your two eyes, so you are called as Lalataksha.
Scholars conclude that the adoption of the vow of “Upnishadic Shirovrata” is true form of worship of Lalataksha. As one can not bear even for a moment a burning charcoal on his head, similarly one should look at the world. Then he can fix himself on the path of devotion to Shiva and he can make significant progress.
