Shiva is called as Pramathadhipa for being the master of genies. According to Puranas Lord Shankar has three hundred sixty millions of such genies. One hundred sixty millions of genies are engaged in Yogic process and they serve Lord Mahadeva, when he is absorbed in meditation etc. eighty million genies are living married life and surround Lord Shankar and Parvati from all sides. Ninety million genies are in half man and half woman form. When Lord Shankar is engaged in conjugal affairs with Bhagvati in seclusion, then these genies become the gate-keepers. Thirty million genies are expert in singing, dancing and playing music, and regularly they perform music for the pleasure of the Lord. All these genies are very strange and their description is found in the Puranas—
All of them are adept in mystic arts, brave, well-versed with the essence of scriptures, knower of everything and they are able to reach everywhere. Within seconds they can travel in the universe, from one corner to other corner. They are always adorned with eightfold mystical perfections like Anima etc. Lord Maheshwar is the master of all these genies. Acharya Bhakar believes in the below mentioned meaning of Pramathadhipa—
Purport: O Lord! Your genies are called as Pramath for eradication of opponents of the Vedas. And you always maintain these Pramaths (genies), so you are called Pramathadhipa. Practicing the state of self-evidence by subduing the urges of material desires, is the true sense of worship of Pramathadhipa.
